A Missouri-based transportation company offering delivery throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada, Tri-National, Inc., has won multiple Truckload Carrier of the Year awards from Johnson Controls. Promising its clients uninterrupted service, Tri-National, Inc., is a member of the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT).
Created in November of 2001, C-TPAT is a government-business partnership designed to increase border security. However, companies that are C-TPAT-certified have the potential for shorter wait times at international borders, primarily due to being able to use the Free and Secure Trade (FAST) lanes. They also receive inspection line priority and are less likely to be subjected to Customs Border Protection examinations.
While there are no costs associated with joining C-TPAT, participating companies are required to meet and maintain certain standards, particularly in regard to transport technology. Interested organizations must conduct and document a security risk assessment, detail how they are meeting C-TPAT’s security criteria, and submit an application through its portal system.
